I’m a classic late-onset athlete. I made it through childhood diligently avoiding exercise, and somehow ended up as a mid-pack triathlete, certified personal trainer, and spinning instructor. I’m now a USA Triathlon Level I coach, which is really just another way to say that I’m a tri geek and love it.
I’ve been a health writer and editor for years for properties including Shape.com, Marie Claire, Health, Prevention and more. Despite all that, I still don’t have it all figured out (other than how to eat way too many Oreos. I’ve got that down pat). But that doesn’t mean I’ve given up trying.
Join me as I check out and celebrate the coolest training secrets, gear, tools and tips and more. Along the way, my goal is to keep the joy in healthy living and knock down the barriers between the “shoulds” and the “want tos.” Come with me; I won’t drop you (unless you’re a whiner)! Let’s go!
Note: I’m a coach, but I’m not a doctor. Nothing on this site should be construed as medical advice. Your doc is your expert on that.

Enjoyed reading your blog immensely – thank you. We have lots in common, including our Tightwad Triathlete label. Great work.
Hi Marty. I just read an article of yours on Active.com. Do you remember me? My name is Donna & I met you years ago on Sanibel. I just discovered your blog through the Active.com article & have enjoyed reading your blog!
